In an essay of 1,500 words (about 6 double-spaced pages), you will analyze a specific
issue of interest in the field of education. Ideally the topic should be something we have not
covered in the term or should expand substantially on a topic we have covered in class. Your
essay should include a thesis statement (i.e., a position on the topic) and present three ideas
to support your argument. This should not be a literature review of the subject; you must have
a thesis and analysis. Five scholarly sources are required (at least one must come from class).
Scholarly means articles from a peer-reviewed journal, peer-reviewed books or chapters, or data
from websites ending in .edu or .gov. Points will be deducted if you do not use scholarly sources,
if you are unsure about a source check with me. Your essay must follow APA format, please

Conclusion- Summarize the essay, remind the reader of your thesis statement, and outline
recommendations for future research; What do you still want to know? What should
future studies focus on? (1 page)
In this section I would talk about what future research should focus on to support the
educational success of first-generation college students. For example, research should
take a more intersectional analysis in order to consider how racelethnicity and gender
