Within your paper, consider your current (or future) teaching situation. What will you do to ensure that your classroom is inclusive for all students? In doing so, you should address the following: You will receive 10 points for your philosophy, and 20 points each for describing your physical environment, emotional environment, academics, and behavior. Up to 10 additional points will be awarded for spelling/grammar.
Your philosophy of education: Briefly (1paragraph) describe your philosophy of how students learn best. Some of what you may include could be: Do you use a lot of cooperative learning? Peer tutoring? Parent involvement? Most effective behavior management system?
Physical arrangement: Describe how you would organize your classroom in a way that is inclusive of all learners – physical arrangement of desks, supplies, lettering on posters in the classroom, access to technology, etc. 1paragraph should cover this as well.
Emotional environment: What will you do to ensure that students feel safe in yo​‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌​ur classroom? This includes feeling comfortable in risk-taking, interactions with other students and adults in the class, etc. Think of a welcoming environment in the classroom – how would you accomplish that? 1 paragraph should cover this
Academics: Related to the subject/grade level you envision yourself teaching (or that you teach now), how will you ensure that students are included in academic tasks? Just as an extreme example, I had a former student whose dad told me his son sat in the back of the room coloring in his previous class while other students worked – this should not happen. How would you ensure ALL students have equal opportunities to learn? This could include accommodations/modifications, or just how you would structure activities to ensure all students could participate fully? 1 paragraph.
Behavior: Think proactively. Obviously, there are going to be times in the classroom where students need to be removed due to behavior reasons. However, how will you structure your classroom procedures and policies in a way that prevents problems from occurring? For instance – access to materials. Sometimes, students get in trouble walking to the back of the room to pick up art supplies. This could include ways you create a classroom community. You may also state your rules and how those rules will be taught. What motivation strategies might you use? 1​‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌​ paragraph.
