Based on your reading of Article 3 (and the provided video), come up with TWO high-level discussion questions regarding some aspect of the article and add them as a single post to this discussion board. Label your questions as “1” and “2”, so people responding can specify what question they are answering. A “high-level” question is one that requires more than a simple sentence or two to effectively answer. It also asks about something specific within the article, or directly related to the article, and requires a thoughtful explanation. You might ask a question about a part of the article that confused you (like the example question below), how topics in the article relate to other concepts in psychology, how information in the article can relate to the “real-world”, etc. Anything that stimulates discussion is acceptable, and there is no specific word requirement for this initial post
Example of a good question:
“On page 379-380, the authors discuss placebo effects and how they can be mimetic or compensatory. I didn’t really understand the difference between these two types of effects or how they relate to conditioning and expectancy. Will someone please explain this so it is easier to understand? I’m thinking mimetic is the same effect as the US and compensatory is the opposite effect as the US, but I’m not sure and am somewhat lost as to how they relate to conditioning and expectancy.”
After making your initial post, read some of the questions posted by other students until you find two questions you would like to answer (they should be questions from different people). Make a reply post to both of those students with your answer to one of their questions. Be sure to specify which question you are answering (1 or 2). Your reply posts should each be a minimum of 150 words and provide a substantive and thoughtful answer to their question.
No outside sources, only use provided reading.
Peer Questions:
1. On page 201 under the paragraph starting with “Contributions of Alan Baddeley and Graham Hitch”, they bring up the concept of a “modal model”. I’m confused how this model differs from the Atkinson and Shiffrin model of working memory.
2. On page 210 in the working memory and learning paragraph the article talks about a woman that was unable to learn new vocabulary but could function well and “exhibit normal learning abilities”. Did this woman have an accident that prohibited her from learning new vocabulary or was she born like that? If she was born like that how could she function well and learn other things?
