I would like you to write a detailed reflective account of a working shift.
You will need to maintain confidentiality to protect those in your care. Please refer to service users/residents at Resident A, B, C.
When you are writing your reflective account, I should be able to read your account and see myself there watching what you are doing.
Example:
If you write I have washed my hands, this will not generate any evidence towards your outcomes.
If your write, I have entered the bathroom and turned on the hot tap. Using my elbow, I have pushed the soap dispenser which I have collected in my palm. I have rubbed the soap into my palms, fingers, thumbs and back of my hands. I place my hands under the hot tap and rinsed off the soap. I have taken a paper towel and turned off the tap using the paper towel. I have then taken another paper towel to dry my hands, using my foot to open the bin and drop my paper towel into. This would generate evidence towards your qualification.
You must write in detail. If you wash your hands 20 times a day, you only need to write the first time with this much detail. The other times you can write I have used the same method to wash my hands documented at the start of my reflective account.
As this is a Lead Adult Care Worker Course, it would be beneficial to record any times where you have provided leadership or guidance to other staff members and colleagues.
For example:
Where you have given advice to others, delegated any responsibilities to others or suggested or implemented changes that improve the efficiency of the shift or the level of care provided to the service users.
You will need to include:
-Any moving and handling (hoisting, standing aids, checking clothing and footwear, checking for hazards, accessing the residents care plan for risk assessments, the whole activity of hoisting from the start, gaining consent and documenting in the residents’ care notes)
– Personal Care
-Supporting mealtimes
-Communication between you, colleagues, and residents. Written methods of communication.
The more detail, the more outcomes will be met.
