Write a capstone paper on adolescent issues. This paper allows you to demonstrate your ability to apply class material to some specific context of adolescence. Your instructor will grade your paper using a rubric.
Instructions
This paper is a capstone paper demonstrating your ability to utilize material learned during the semester to better explain the issues specific to an adolescent topic of your choice. This assignment is due at the end of Week 13:
Write an introductory paragraph explaining the purpose of your paper and a concluding paragraph that brings your paper to a close.
After the introduction, begin your paper with a review of the literature about your topic (based on at least two research-based articles or research review pieces).
In the remaining part of your paper, explain how to improve understanding of your topic by considering it within at least three of the developmental and contextual topics covered in this course (e.g., physiological, cognitive, egocentrism, psychosocial, family, peers, school, etc.).
For this section of your paper, use the headings above to share information and insights from your articles as they relate to the 3 developmental topics you choose.
Support your use of class material using the textbook and other class materials provided during the semester. You should include at least 3 references to the class readings that support what you are writing about. Cite all of the course material sources that you use like this (Arnett, 2019).
Provide a reference page and in-text citations for the outside articles you use, and for textbook or other class materials that you use.
Your paper is limited to 3–4 pages of text.
Follow all APA formatting rules. You don’t need to include an abstract.
Pick an adolescent issue you care about (vaping, teenage sex, mental health, body image, bullying, alcohol use, etc.).
Find 2 scholarly journal articles (published by professors and researchers) about your topic. I like to use google scholar to find them or the BYUI library.
Here are the parts/suggested headings for your paper (Use headings!!!):
Introduction
Review Article 1
Review Article 2
Dev. Topic #1, such as Family
Dev. Topic #2 such as Peers
Dev. Topic #3 such as School or Mental Health
Conclusion
Reference page (double spaced)
Don’t forget to make at least 3 references to the class readings to support ideas that are in your paper. Use an in-text citation like this (Arnett, 2019, p.23) Page number is optional.
