elongated and hitting all the points of the assignment below.
Completing a Case Analysis
You are a member of the consulting team that the hospital has hired to prepare a report for the executive team addressing the problems or “gaps” identified in the case at your healthcare organization. Ensure your writing reflects a professional consulting report addressed to the executive team. Follow this with a brief summary of the organization. Your report should then detail the following components:
Executive Summary begin your consulting report with an executive summary that summarizes your recommended plan of action
Organization Overview-brief summary of the organization
Environmental Analysis:
Internal Analysis – this is your internal analysis worksheet with the recommended revisions complete
External Analysis – this is your external analysis worksheet with the recommended revisions completed.
SWOT – your key outputs from your internal and external analysis should be summarized in your SWOT analysis. Your SWOT analysis provides a clear assessment of where the organization stands-a snapshot of the organization. (Remember generally your strengths and weaknesses are the internal analysis and the opportunities and threats are your external analysis)
Gap Analysis – Based on the SWOT identify the “Gaps’ between where the organization currently is and their desired states. Identifies four priorities.
Strategic Formulation – Based on the identified priorities, identify three-five goals for each priority. Develop SMART Goals, objectives, actions and KPIs.
Implementation and Evaluation- Implementation is answering the “who, when, what, where, how” questions – include a time-line, identify how will you evaluate progress, who is responsible for the outcomes. This information should be captured in a Balanced Score Card or Gantt Chart.
Financial – 3-year financial projection. Specifically, what capital expenditures do you anticipate? What expenses do you project based on implementation of your plan? What revenue will your plan generate?
Three Important Caveats
There is a limit to what “assumptions” you can reasonably bring into a case, assumptions must make sense and be supported by data.
Therefore, use industry information, annual reports, statistics from government and professional associations, and economic data to provide a thorough basis for your assumptions. Outside information will provide you with the facts that support assumptions.
Set the case in real time, identify real time factors of concern, and address the problem with real time. Be realistic in your assessments and recommendations. A well-done analysis can be hindered by unrealistic expectations and plans. Ask yourself if you would really recommend this plan to the CEO of the hospital you are going to be interning/working at this summer.
Exhibits
Your consulting team is required to utilize exhibits for your report, please use the following as general guideline to exhibits. Other exhibit types are welcome as long as they provide valuable information. As an FYI, case grades do not increase exponentially with exhibit volume.
When using exhibits, all-important points need to be brought into the text. Therefore, exhibits are used to support your points in the text. Exhibits must be relevant, and they must be referred to in your write-up. The conclusion and key figures (if applicable) from each exhibit should be referenced and drawn into the text at the appropriate point; the reader should not have to flip from the text to the exhibit in order to understand your point.
Analogously, each exhibit should include one or two lines of text at the bottom, stating its conclusion, and demonstrating its relevance to your argument. The reader should not be left wondering why a particular exhibit was included. The point of the exhibits is NOT to
compress additional text into your paper but to clarify and support your assessments given in the text.
