I need an editorial based on the same topic from past orders
Must Include/have (from rubric):
The essay begins with a thought provoking title, and an engaging introduction that includes your thesis (you may need to generalize/rework to address a broader audience)
Your editorial makes a strong argument with a deeply informed opinion, supported by a range of appropriate and convincing evidence and a careful balance between objectivity and subjectivity
Addresses a clear and appropriate audience, both informing and persuading readers in relationship to the issue
Has a well-developed sense of voice and expertise—the writer is present and knowledgeable, the tone is persuasive, and the essay is informed by experience (personal or otherwise) and research (facts, statistics, expert opinion, etc.)
Balances ethos, pathos, and logos to build writerly credibility, connect to readers personally, and develop a clear and convincing argument
Uses well developed body paragraphs to provide information and evidence, connecting each claim to the thesis and evidence to each claim, transitioning smoothly from one idea to the next
Carefully considers counterarguments and opposing voices or viewpoints
Concludes by proposing a clear solution or addressing a relevant problem—convinces readers to change actions or thoughts
Appropriately integrates and correctly cites sources in MLA format, and documents those citations in a reference page OR cited using hyperlinks (see the NY Times editorials as examples)
Shows evidence of proofreading
Is between 2-3 full pages in length
An editorial is not a research paper. Research is often communicated with a neutral/non-biases tone, whereas an editorial will rely heavily on opinion and/or persuasion. You will be using the same information but your goal should be to get the information across to a general audience. Think in terms of well informed cliff notes.
