The
astronauts begin to develop bone weakness as a result of being in outer for
prolonged periods of time because of the weightless environment that they are
in. With being in this type of environment the bones no longer have to support
the body against gravity and it begins to lose its sense of density that it
required on earth to adequately support the body. Because muscle and bone
support is not needed as much in space, the body begins to stops maintaining
and it begins to deteriorate. The exercising in space can help slow down the
rate of bone loss, but it does not prevent it all together. The loss of the
bone density makes the astronauts more susceptible to fractures.

Astronauts start to have
bone weakness problems after prolonged stay in the space. This is because of
the microgravity environment, space can bring change to the human body in many
ways. Since astronauts lose so much bone and muscle mass, it affects their
ability to walk and move once they have returned back to earth. Bone loss can
start within the first couple of days in space, serve loss starts between the
second and fifth month. It is shown that astronauts can lose up to 20% in bone
mass. They can regain most of their bone mass but not all of it after returning
back to earth. The microgravity causes bones to break down at a faster rate.
This results in lower bone density, bones become more fragile and are subject
to cause fractures more easily.
