● 10-page case study on Generalized Anxiety Disorder
– Case study should be fictional or fully de-identified.
● Give a brief description of the client and presenting issues.
● Develop a basic therapeutic treatment plan based on the presenting problems.
● Describe pertinent current neuropsychological research that
applies to the client’s diagnosis that would guide or inform your treatment plan.
– Describe the basic concepts necessary to understand the ways that particular area of
neurology impacts behavior and psychological functioning.
– Include three ways in which environment can negatively impact this neurological area
(e.g., drug exposure, abuse/neglect, etc.).
– Describe ways in which biological/genetic factors can impact the functioning of this area
of the brain (e.g., developmental delays, genetic abnormalities, etc.)
●Describe pertinent current psychopharmacology research that applies to the client’s diagnosis that would guide or inform your treatment plan.
– Conduct a literature review on the chosen topic utilizing a minimum of three journal
articles written within the last five years.
● Note: Students will likely choose to use more than three, but are only
required to use three.
– Describe the basic current psychopharmacological treatment recommendations (e.g.,
class(es) of medication used, treatment course, etc.).
– Describe three specific issues a master’s level therapist should be aware of as they treat
someone with this particular issue (e.g., common side effects of medication, how the
disorder may impact cognitive functioning, etc.).
● Develop a mock script for educating the client on neuropsychological topics pertinent to
their growth and understanding.
● Keep the cognitive/developmental/emotional readiness of the client in
mind.
● In addition to the educational script, script a discussion of psychopharmacology and its
relevance/potential benefits/liabilities related to client’s symptoms and overall
functioning.
● Your script must take into account client readiness, cognitive ability,
perceived need of medication, and current best practice recommendations
related to the client’s diagnosis.
● Describe what possible case management steps may be required in this case (e.g.,
coordination with psychiatrist/doctor, symptom/side effect tracking, other resources that
may help the client, etc.).
