Article Summary:
The purpose of this article is to inform case managers and families about what the new health care bill will do for children with special needs. The article explains how, prior to the new health care bill, insurance companies limited their coverage for children with special needs, causing parents to endure financial hardship. However, with the new health care bill, insurance companies will have to ensure families and children with special needs. Families will be able to use their insurance to get their children services and design care plans to support the wishes of their child. For children with special needs, the health care bill that was just passed will help them out much more than previous insurance plans.

Starting Wednesday I will be helping a case manager go through the company’s resource books and in these books they have services in the surrounding areas that families and consumers can use. I will be looking for more services that take Medicaid. I hope to explore them to see what I have to do to help future clients receive those services. One service our clients need more help with is finding therapists who take Medicaid, so I will be looking in the surrounding communities for therapists who take Medicaid. And I will also be looking at how to help increase the usage of healthcare, maintain eligibility, and maximize the benefits for the clients at HCRS.
This research is important to case managers and social workers in general because most of our clients will have Medicaid and it is going to be important for us to know what services we can get for them and what services they can’t use. Hopefully, social workers will be able to use this research and maximize the use of benefits for the new health care bill and help clients and families improve their lives. Along with using the health care to ease the financial troubles with our families, hopefully, the care plans will be able to help improve our clients’ lives because they won’t have to worry about the financial burdens of many of the services they need access to.
