Our last discussion board was about the different ways that homeland security’s methods for information collecting. These different ways of collecting information are HUMINT, sensors, CCTV surveillance, biometric scanning, and data mining or data profiling. I learned that a few of us agree that CCTV is most likely the most effective for specific information collecting. Also, I learned that being online and visiting different types of websites causes that person to have a digital footprint. This is where data mining comes in hand. However, this type of information collecting is usually used to vet individuals for jobs. I also learned what biometric scanning is. Biometric scanning is used to tell people apart. Specifically with iris’ and fingerprints.
The most compelling thing to me is that my peers all had different opinions on what works best for surveillance and information gathering. Another compelling factor, each one of these options for surveillance has some kind of limitation to it. Whether it be a camera placed in the wrong position or those cameras being used for illegal activity such as spying on others. There is not a one fits all type of information-gathering technology. It seems to me that there is always a “catch” to using any of these.
Unfortunetly, this time around I did not get any responses for my discussion board 3. Therefore I did not get an idea of what others thought of my post. However, I always learn more information from reading others posts. That is something that helps me to understand everything a little better. Everyone gives different information and this is how I learn more about the subject. We have different information because we used different sources for the information. These are reasons that the discussion boards help me to understand the subject at hand. It would always be better with response to my post though.
Something that I have done really well with is doing Intellipath lessons. I learn better when I am quizzed on the information as I go through it. It is a chance for me to go back into the lesson to specific information and reread it if neccassry. With Intellipath it tells me specifically what I still need to work on and this helps a lot. Also, going over the same information helps with my memory of the information.
So far everything seems pretty clear to me. I actually did not have any trouble for this discussion board. It was very factual and it was pretty easy to understand. Also, reading my classmates posts helped with anything I had trouble with.
