Learning Goal: I’m working on a health & medical project and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Having a balanced scorecard is vital to the success of a healthcare organization. A scorecard is an analytic indicator of process performance and allows decision-makers to find areas of improvement to target. It is truly a “scorecard” of organizational or departmental success. This activity will allow you to analyze an existing scorecard and find areas for improvement. An existing scorecard for your hypothetical organization is attached. Additionally, below are some of the scenarios that are playing out at your hypothetical organization. How you analyze and react to these scenarios will affect your future scorecard readings. Last words: healthcare is a for-profit business; your decisions should embrace this fact while remaining ethical and maintaining quality care.our healthcare organization is embracing an old proprietary computerized billing system. It is slow and not as functional as newer systems on the market. The new systems are more efficient and can save more time. Part of the increased efficiency with the new systems will replace 2 human billing positions. One of the human positions is a billing specialist that has been with the organization for 35 years.Part 1. Problem Analysis PowerPoint (with audio narration)Create a PowerPoint, with audio narration on the slides, that identifies and analyzes the above problematic scenarios and explores process improvements to rectify these issues. Pretend you are presenting in a department head meeting at the hospital and you are first identifying process deficiencies, and next proposing relevant solutions (more efficient processes).Part 2. Healthcare Process MappingDevelop a map of a healthcare process or processes that are inefficient in the above example (current state). Make sure that your process map has a start and endpoint, that all inputs and outputs are defined, and that all key process steps are included. Then, also include the process mapping improvement slides (future state) at the end of your part 1 PowerPoint slides (in the same file).Part 3. Project a New Scorecard (based on your process revisions/improvements)Make an electronic copy of the original scorecard file (Save As). Use the copied file as a scorecard projection. Basically, show the reader what parts of the scorecard will be positively affected by your recommended process improvements (project results in 6 months from now and highlight your projections in another color). Format the excel file any way you want to best convey to the reader your new projections. Try to stay realistic in your projections. Change takes time… There will be some guestimation here.
