Learning Goal: I’m working on a communications discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Carefully read the article below from the NY Post. Listen, it’s terrible. The logic is horribly flawed. The tone is nasty and hypocritical. The evidence is cherry-picked and anecdotal. This is easily one of the worst opinion pieces I’ve read in the past few years, which makes it a prime candidate for a response (i.e., a letter to the editor). Step 2: After reading, please answer the following questions:List five (5) statements or claims (an assertion of the truth of something) from the article that you disagree with. In a sentence explain why you disagree with each of these claims.
Find one (1) claim/idea where you somewhat agree with the author, Johnny Oleksinski. List and explain why you agree.
Craft a diplomatic opener (1-2 sentences). How would you build common ground with the original author?
Finally, why should we get this issue right? What’s the broader significance of this issue?
Each of these concerns represents a core element for a successful Letter to an Editor.
