This week we have discussed and read about science and art. Answer one of these questions.
Discuss the reading and lecture around the topics of medicine, listening, touch, and visuality. Describe a medical experience you have had in which listening, sound, touch, and images and looking have played a role. We discussed two exhibitions about blindness and art. Choose one of the works discussed in lecture and analyze it in terms of how it makes you understand sight, visuality, and our negotiation of the world differently.
Nancy Burson’s Faces series makes us think deeply about beauty and normalcy and standards of appearance. Describe how the work shifts your perception of normalcy, appearance, and looking with respect to ideologies of beauty.
Eduardo Kac’s bunny: what are the stakes of genetically modified life as art? How does the piece comment on and critique genetics?
You may choose another focus from this week if you wish.
