Learning Goal: I’m working on a political science question and need support to help me learn.Formatting Requirements: 5 double-spaced pages, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins (any long headers will not be counted towards the 5 page length). General guidelines: This is a paper in which you need to make a clear argument that is supported with material from the readings and lectures. One straightforward way to ensure you make a clear argument is, in the introduction, to include a sentence that beings with “I argue that…” Further, it will be helpful to ask yourself whether each paragraph is advancing this main point, and to use sources to back up claims that you make. You should critically engage with the course, and you should include at least five citations from the course in your paper (readings or lectures).Paper description: For this paper, you will discuss the impact of women in office. Select two members of Congress, one male and one female, who are serving in the same legislative chamber (either House or Senate, your choice). You may choose whether they have the same party affiliation, represent the same state, etc — it’s entirely your choice. The first part of your paper should compare and contrast the members’ websites. Possible topics you can address in this part: what kinds of information do they share about themselves? How are they similar and different? Do you attribute these similarities and differences to, for example, gender, seniority, and/or constituency? (*note: your answer to this last question could form the basis for your argument in your paper)
The second part of your paper should discuss the two members’ legislative work in Congress. Possible topics you can address in this part: How active or effective are they in Congress (e.g. bill sponsorship, legislative effectiveness, etc.)? How would you characterize their congressional careers? And again, how are they similar and different, and to what do you attribute these similarities and differences to? (*note: your answer to this last question could, again, form the basis for your argument in your paper)
Throughout both parts of your paper, be sure to connect your observations with the readings and lecture material — see the “general guidelines” above.Your grade on the Final Paper will take into account the following factors:How you compare/contrast the two members’ websites (what observations you make and your conclusions from these observations; see “first part” above for more details)
How you compare/contrast the two members’ legislative work in Congress (what observations you make and your conclusions from these observations; see “second part” above for more details)
How you make a clear argument (see “general guidelines” section)
How you connect your observations with the readings and lecture material (including whether you cite at least 5 sources from the course)
Whether your paper satisfies the length and formatting requirements
Whether your paper was submitted on time
Whether you completed the presentation of a brief summary of your paper (synchronously or asynchronously)
Requirements: 5 pages
