You will prepare a case study on an organization’s response to a disaster in terms of the planning and preparation that was in place prior to the disaster event.
In this study you will examine the planning which was done (or not done) by a specific organization. The organization can be a public private or non-governmental organization.
The point of the case study is to examine how that planning, or lack thereof, affected the response and recovery from the disaster.
For this assignment, the disaster must be one that occurred in the previous five (5) years. It does not have to be limited to one which occurred in the United States.
Remember you are looking at a specific organizational planning and response to a disaster event, so it is important to concentrate your research on resources to the specific organization. For example, if you were writing a case
study about a hurricane which affected the city of Miami, FL, you may wish to concentrate your study on a particular agency’s planning and response, such as The Miami Police Department, the Miami Fire Department, the Miami Airport, The Office of Emergency Management, etc. You could also examine the city-wide or county-wide Hurricane
Plan—for even the State of Florida’s response. The point is to focus on the disaster, the response, the relevant
agency of concern and the planning.
For this assignment research and data are key elements of your case study.
Assignment Requirements:
A cover or title page with your name on it.
Labeled topical headings (e.g., Introduction, Discussion, Conclusion, Recommendations, etc.)
Length: The report must contain a body of text approximating 2,000 typed words (about 8 pages double-spaced, 12 point font), excluding cover, abstract, illustrations, graphs, table of contents, appendices, and reference pages. Reports significantly below or above the parameters will be downgraded. Please note that abstract, illustrations, graphs, table of contents, appendices are NOT required but if you do use them, they do not count as part of the body of text for length assessment.
A reference page containing a minimum of five (5) course-external resources used and cited in the report.
References cited at the end of the report must be cited in text to illustrate how they were used.
Written in APA Style.
