Global Stratification: Crash Course Soc #28
Please watch the video, read transcript and complete the worksheet below.
NOTE: The video talks VERY fast. Please consider slowing the video down as you watch it. To do so, click on the “settings” icon (see image below) and change the playback settings (.75-.85 seems to be a better speed):

Dependency theory deals with finite (or limited resources) and how poor countries have been wronged by rich

From this perspective, global stratification starts with colonialism, including exploitation of humans (labor, via

BRIEF ANALYSIS
13.. In #4 above you explained why global stratification exists from a modernization theoretical point of view. In #6
you explained criticisms of the modernization approach. Also, in #8 and #9 you did the same, but from a
dependency theoretical point of view.
For this question, please explain which of these theories (modernization or dependency) you think explains most of the on-going (current) global stratification that we see in the world today. In your answer, please be sure to explain what part of the theory you think is most relevant in understanding today’s global inequality and how the other theory falls short in that regard. You may draw upon your earlier answers in your explanation and feel free to use an example if you have one in mind. I expect a paragraph or two.
Extra Credit (2 points): The USMCA (U.S., Mexico, Canada Agreement) was ratified by all three countries and serves as replacement (or modification of) NAFTA. Please skim the following articles. Were you already familiar with the USMCA? In light of our readings on globalization and global inequality, what are your thoughts? Will this worsen or reduce inequality? Will it help or hurt workers or the environment? Be sure to cite something specific (and use a quote) from at least one of the articles. I expect two brief paragraphs.
