All properties and Igneous ID: 2pts/box Melt equivalent (6pts for entire column) Part 3 Have you ever seen an erupting volcano? Record a short video of yourself telling the story of where you were and how it felt to see such an incredible geologic event. If you haven’t had a first-hand experience with volcano but you want to participate, please respond to classmates’ posts when they share their stories AND add a post of your own discussing what you found interesting or what you have questions about in the videos I have posted below. CLASSMATE POST 1 I’ve never experienced a volcano and I’m totally okay with never seeing one after seeing Pompeii! In fact, even that drone video made me a little nervous, I’d have been afraid of my drone flying into a chunk of molten rock being flung into the air. I have some friends who planted a church in Hawaii and they had a local volcano erupt and went to go see it at night. The photos they had were amazing, it was all dark except for the red cracks glowing in the blackness. CLASSMATE POST 2 Loved the drone footage of the volcanic eruption. I know they’re big and scary, but volcanoes are just so cool. I have no first-hand experience with them, but I’ve always wanted to see one! I think they’re kind of awesome and honestly if I was ever going to be any sort of -ologist, I’d probably want to be a volcanologist. Something I’d be interested in learning more about are volcanoes found elsewhere in our solar system, because apparently they can be really weird compared to the ones we’re used to here on Earth. For example, cryovolcanoes sound insane, like something out of science fiction. The only relevant pic I have was taken in Mescalero, New Mexico. This was the view from our hotel room, and that mountain in the background is Sierra Blanca Peak. I don’t know much about it to be honest, but we were told at the time that it was part of a volcanic mountain range (formed by volcanoes long ago, I think, and not actually a volcano now, but please correct me if I’m wrong Ms. Moe). The Peak is actually on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, so you have to have a special permit to get up there. We never did, but enjoyed the view of the mountain during our trip. The Mescalero and Ruidoso area is gorgeous, if any of you ever find yourselves in southern New Mexico. Contrast isn’t great on my screen, but I believe that solid white section in the center is actually the peak, not a cloud. It’s much more clear on my cell, apologies. Part 4 Upload a scan of all pages of your work from Chapter 7 (Pages 93-95) here. Uploads must be a single document (pdf), which can be done in the “notes” feature of both iPhones and Android devices (if you do not have access to a scanner). Make sure that all of your required exercises are complete with all work for math-related problems being shown. This is a major portion of the credit for your weekly lab work.Part 5Have you ever found a fossil? Tell the story about how and where you found it.THEN, ALSOFind a recent article (written in the last two years) about a fossil discovery somewhere in the world.Give a brief summary of the article including the (name of the article, who published it, and where you found it) then ask two questions that you still have after reading the article. The questions could be about the discovery from the article OR about paleontology in general. SUBMISSION: Students will submit this work through the PROJECT#1 assignment portal in Canvas.Option #1: Record video – Videos can be recorded directly in Canvas using the Studio Arc video creator…Option #2: You may write out your responses and include a picture. If you choose to write out your introduction and include a photo, you attach your photo file by clicking on the icon that looks like a mountain in a frame, as circled belowBASIC RUBRIC: 1. Did student fully answer all of the questions? (90pts) 2. Did student make their introduction fun and interesting (i.e. record their introduction as a video or include fun photos), and/or did they respond to other classmates’ posts? (10pts)
