Geology History of Agriculture Report Writing Assessment Answer
Assignment Task:
Changing the Earth Surface Through Agriculture –
Surface properties of soils regulate infiltration of rainwater, gas exchange, water retention, temperature fluxes, albedo and many more. Without humans, large parts of the earth surface would be permanently covered by thick vegetation. Human land use changes this natural vegetation cover by transforming large parts of the earth’s surface into the agricultural field, grazing paddocks or horticulture areas. The land use change comes with changes in chemical and physical soil parameters which influence important soil functions.
A comparison between fields used for pumpkin growing under more conventional methods as well as using biological methods is made with a nearby ‘native situation’. Students will assess certain soil functions in the field and take samples for subsequent laboratory analysis.
You will assess parameters like hydraulic conductivity, soil moisture, EC and pH, soil carbon, Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), and CaCO
