I. Introduction- This should be no longer than half a page.
A. It should include the title of the speech, Who delivered the speech, When it was given, Where it was given
B. Brief history surrounding the importance of the speaker and/or the significance of the event.
C. Provide a clear thesis statement and a preview as part of your introduction.
II. Body
A. The body of the speech can be organized around the key areas you wish to discuss for your analysis/response, or it can be organized around strengths and weaknesses. For example, you could focus on organization, examples, and language. Specifically, you could discuss how the speaker performed in each area and whether it enhanced or hurt the overall quality of the speech. You can also organize your paper around strengths and weaknesses. For example, you could discuss how language and examples were strengths, but the organization needed improvement.
B. Use the Speech Response Guide to help you determine which areas you would like to include in your response. You do NOT have to cover every area. I would focus on the areas that stand out to you either because they were done extremely well or because they needed improvement.
Give examples to support your response. For example, if you are talking about vivid language, include a quote. Just be careful to not provide an inadequate response/analysis because your paper is all quotes.
II. Conclusion
A. Be certain to have a clear conclusion with a summary of the main points
B. Restatement of thesis
C. Memorable closing statement
