The question is on the pros and cons of privatization. Before you get into this, make sure you understand the reasons for privatization as explored in the article. Increasingly, this has become more of a local government issue as local governments search for ways to fund local services given increasing responsibilities and less funding as we have explored in this class. Many states operate on home rule charter systems with very easy methods to incorporate new cities. On the other side, some states have a lot of control over their cities and have highly encouraged privatization to improve city services. There are a couple cases to consider before getting into this discussion. The first is Sandy Springs, Ga, which several years ago created controversy not only when it incorporated, but then decided to privatize most of its city services. See this attached video and also read about how several years later (closer to our time now) they have gone back on the so-called ‘Sandy Springs model’.
