For this speech assignment, you will create an outline for your 5-7 minute persuasive speech.
The primary goal of a persuasive speech is to get your audience to accept your point of view. Your persuasive speech is not just trying to promote an idea but arguing for either a policy, action, or belief change, or continuation. The idea is to present an argument for your point that expresses not only the validity of your position but the lack of validity of the opposing argument. To complete this task, you must:
Have a topic that is not objective in nature but rather advocates to the audience, not just encourages or informs them
Must argue for a Persuasive Claim- usually using the word “should”
Must refute opposing arguments rather than just ignore them
Use at least two scholarly sources to support your work
Use at least three different forms of support types, such as examples, definitions, descriptions, enumeration, quotations, statistics, etc.
Sources must be verbally cited in the speech itself, as well as citations in the outline
