a- Lines are one-dimensional and can vary in the type. There are several types of lines, thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, zigzag, diagonal, curly, curved and so many more. It can also vary in the width, direction, and length. In some pieces of art they aren’t even seen but are still there. Paintings for example do not always show distinct lines but they are still there. Contour drawing is a technique used to make an outline. It is the prettier lines that make up the shape and give it definition. Cross-contour lines give the picture volume. They are the lines that give your picture movement and depth. It can also give the picture emotion and attitude. Cross-contouring can give your picture shaded areas. Continued lines is a single line that makes up and image. It is mostly used as an exercise in art classes but can also be art on its own. Discontinued lines are lines that do not stay connected in a single movement. Most drawings are made of discontinued lines.

b- Cross contour is defined as lines that travel, as the name suggests, across the form. Cross contours follow the structure of the surface area- using curved lines over curving or spherical planes, straight lines across flat surfaces. Cross contour lines are very much an attitude on how to approach drawing. They are the lines that reflect the movement of your eye in and around what you see.

Contour drawings usually use no shading, but lighter and darker tonal regions can be suggested, by varying line width and pressure. Darker, thicker lines can be used in shadow areas, and lighter, thinner lines in lighter areas. While contour lines describe edges, cross-contours describe form and volume. These lines can follow planes of form, moving around and across objects as well as through them. This artistic technique is used in the field of art. An artist sketches the style of a subject by drawing lines that result in a drawing that is essentially an outline.I find cross contour lines fascinating, a type of art that I would enjoy having more experience in concurring. In high school, I was given an assignment to like this class, draw a hand. We Awere told to create a cross contour art project. We were told to add 30 lines to our hand drawing and have them follow the curvatures and edges of the page, creating a three-dimensional piece. I appreciate this experience. There is an artist I would like to discuss. I find this artist to be incredibly impressive. Spotted on Instagram, this artist uses cross contour to the best ability. This artist’s name is or Aartfinesse. I suggest taking a look at their beautiful pieces.

Application Assignment #3
For full points, please answer all questions, meeting minimum sentence requirement

In this assignment, we’ll start to look at one of the things that makes our species exceptional – that is culture. You’re read and seen videos that explain that other animals/hominins have culture, but I think it is an easy argument to make that our current culture is at a different level.

Think about this – life has existed on this planet for about 3.5 billions years. Yes billions. Now out of those 3.5 billions years, it has only been in the last 100 years or so that any animal has developed technology that can destroy the planet – and that animal is of course, us. We have evolved to produce and share culture. We have evolved to be creative. However, is that ultimately going to get us into trouble?

Please read the following paper by philosopher, Nick Bostrom. You are only required to read through page 458, however I encourage you all to read the whole paper.

vulnerable.pdf I have attached it

1. Using your understanding of evolution, specifically natural selection, provide a hypothesis of how and why we evolved to produce culture and to be so creative. (minimum 6 sentence)

2. Please summarize the part you were required to read. (minimum 6 sentence)

3. What do you think of this hypothesis? Do you think it is possible that we will one day pick up a “black ball”? What about the idea that any one of our white and grey balls can one day turn into black balls? Meaning, we invent technology that appears to be beneficial but one day will ultimately destroy us? (minimum 8 sentence)
