FINAL PROJECT
In every profession, staff members must be trained on various job functions. There is no “one size fits all” way of designing and delivering training. It will depend upon the topics, the audience, and what the trainer wants the trainees to be able to do or know. Word processing and multimedia programs are vital in this process, as they are used to share information in ways that extend beyond the human voice.
The Task
Each student will choose a topic pertaining to their career field of interest, or their current place of employment. It should be a specific skill or set of skills. Then, students will write a training proposal and develop a multimedia presentation (or other form of multimedia) to be utilized as part of the training.
The Deliverables
There are a minimum of four deliverables required:
The training proposal
The lesson plan
The multimedia component
The assessment instrument
The training proposal – use the provided example. Address each of the sections provided on the example and make sure to format the document appropriately. Two fonts, varied (but deliberate) text formatting, NO MLA or APA format.
The lesson plan – should clearly outline what you plan to do. When you write objectives, use the following format:
AUDIENCE BEHAVIOR CRITERION DEGREE The participants will be able to properly format a memo using the mandated specifications with no errors.
Who is being trained? What do you want them to do? How will you check to ensure How do you want it done? The objective has been met?
The multimedia component – this can be a slide show to accompany your live presentation, or a fully self-contained “kiosk” presentation (meaning that there is no live presenter and that the trainees view this material independently.) Please specify this in your proposal. The slides should include: (1) a title slide with your information; (2) a color background that is the same on every slide; (3) use of two fonts; (4) slide transitions; (5) animations; (6) at least one table; (7) at least five photos; (8) at least one SmartArt graphic. No full sentences on slides! Text-heavy slides will face huge penalties!!!

The Assessment Instrument – This can be a short survey, quiz, or rubric to evaluate how well a task was carried out. It should be designed for quick and easy use, meaning that there should not be a lot of writing involved. Here are some sample items:
Likert-Scale Instrument
On a scale of 1-5, with “1” being ineffective and “5” being effective; please rate each of the following:
The group exercise 1 2 The question-answer session 1 2
Yes/No
Would you recommend the workshop to others?
3 4 5 3 4 5
YES NO
Multiple Choice
Which of the following is not a word processing application?
Microsoft Word
Corel WordPerfect
Apple Pages
d. LotusNotes
Examples
Here are some doable ideas for training workshops, although I encourage you to find a similar idea that is comparable in size.
Email etiquette
A routine software/technology training (don’t try to teach an entire program)
Safety training
Cleanup procedure, end-of-shift routine
Read the PDF files provided on Canvas to help you plan out your project.
Suggestions… use a process that you’ve actually trained others on, or are comfortable enough with the content that you’d actually be able to deliver this. Also, try to create as much of the content yourself. Take pictures, don’t download them. Finally, be yourself and make this fun and engaging. Who says training has to be boring?
Submission
Upload two files to Canvas – a DOCX file with the proposal, lesson plan, and assessment instrument in one file (each starting on their own page), and the multimedia component as a PP
