For this project, you are required to download the software Microsoft Power BI – a powerful data visualization tool, onto your personal computer.  You should be able to sign into the software freely using your CUHK email address.  If you have difficulty in installing this software or signing into it, please inform me and Sam as soon as possible.  

You will be provided a dataset by Hong Kong’s insurtech company, Bowtie.  But first you must first sign the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and submit a signed PDF copy on Blackboard.  The data by Bowtie will be distributed to the class once all NDAs have been collected.  (NDA signed)

In addition, you will also need to make use of Hong Kong insurance market statistics available publicly on the Insurance Authority’s 

The key objective of this project is to examine the current health insurance market trend in Hong Kong, and the demographic characteristics of the buyers of Bowtie’s digital insurance products.

Bowtie is an online provider of health insurance products.  Please visit its website to gain some understanding about the company.  The dataset provided by Bowtie includes the following variables:

Policy purchase date and type of policy

Date of birth and gender of policy purchaser

Whether the policy purchaser is a smoker

Occupation of the policy purchaser

Existing medical condition of the policy purchaser, if any

Any other insurance products already owned by the policy purchaser

 

Select the most relevant data from the Insurance Authority’s website in (3) above, and try to make use of all the variables provided by Bowtie in (5).  In your Power BI report, you should attempt to create about 10 to 12 charts or tables, and divide them into the following two sections:

Hong Kong health insurance market trend

Bowtie policyholders’ characteristics

 

Based on your Power BI analyses, write a 500-word summary in Word on the key insights that can be drawn from the charts and tables.  Your summary should make an attempt to answer the following questions:

What is the general outlook of Hong Kong’s health insurance market?

What are the characteristics of Bowtie’s early adopters?  

Based on Hong Kong’s market conditions in the near future, what are the potential market segments for Bowtie to target?  Recommend any suitable marketing strategy for Bowtie.
