Primary Source Document Analysis. (100 Total Points)
The purpose of this assignment is to closely examine a series of primary source documents that trace the history of education from the colonial period to contemporary times. Select one primary source document from 5 different chapters of the Fraser text. (Five total documents) You will write a paper in which you analyze, interpret, and evaluate these primary source documents from major periods in U.S. history that have shaped the American educational landscape. Divide your paper into a section for each document and follow the instructions below.
Title the first section “Introduction” and write a one-page maximum introduction to the paper.
Title each subsequent section with the name of the document. Use the following subheadings for each document:
Time Period and Theme – Write a one-paragraph summary in your own words of the time period and theme being discussed in the chapter from which you selected the document.
Document Summary Summarize the primary document in your own words in no more than two paragraphs.
Why This Document was Selected – Explain why you selected this document as your focus document or the most essential primary source for this particular topic in history.
Perspective This Document Offers Related to the history of education in the United States – Discuss the author’s perspective this document offers related to the history of education in the United States.
Long-term Impact of Document on Education – Describe the long-term impact or effect of this document on education in the United States.
Title the final section “Conclusion” and write a one-paragraph conclusion summarizing the importance of these documents to education in the United States.
Include a complete reference section in APA format at end of the paper. You may only use the primary source documents you select from the Frazier text and the Urban text as references – no other references permitted. Be sure to include in-text citations in your paper where you are paraphrasing or quoting.
