Hypothetically, interview 6 educators (2 academic coaches and 4 classroom teachers) in a Title l school with highly diverse populations to document their perceptions of middle school educators’ understanding of classroom management. Conduct a qualitative research investigation exploring and documenting their perceptions and understanding of classroom management. Use a combination of anecdotal records, pupil comments and/or performance to complete qualitative investigation.
Provide a combination of anecdotal records, pupil comments and/or performance to complete qualitative investigation.
MAKE SURE YOU LABEL EACH SECTION–Introduction, Significance of the Study, etc.
Formulated a research paper which will:
A. Include an introduction with definition (2 paragraphs)— This section should catch the reader’s attention and let her know what you are studying and why you chose this topic. Tell the reader in what paradigm you belong and why. Tell the reader a bit about your topic and how it fits into your ideas about learning—the educational paradigm. In the introduction include at least one reference and make sure you use APA referencing. This means include an article, book, etc. This must be research-based work. You may not just find something on the internet and provide an internet link.
B. Discuss the significance of the Study (1 paragraph)—Explain why is the problem significant and what will answering this question add to the research?
C. State the Purpose of the Study (1 paragraph)—State the problem you want to answer. This is not the research question. You are setting the reader up for the question. Tell the reader which type of research paradigm you intend to follow–FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT YOU WILL FOLLOW QUALITATIVE. Explain how does the research you intend to do fit into this paradigm? Then lead the reader into the research questions guiding the study.
D. State the research questions guiding your study.
1. Research Question: What are the perceptions of middle school educators’ understanding of classroom management?
E. Give a definitive problem statement and purpose of your study.
F. Provide a background for the study and the specific “problem” (2 paragraphs) –Background information is engaging and leads to a clear purpose statements; two or three main discussion points of the literature review are clearly identified in the purpose statement.
G. Synthesize pertinent literature on your topic and subtopics in a brief literature review (3 to 4 paragraphs; 2 pages). – Thorough comparison and contrast of findings are provided and relate to the researcher’s goal or purpose; Articles are well synthesized with each other. This section should detail the other research that has been completed on your topic or similar topic. The reader should be able to see you interacting with your sources and not just merely stating study after study. On the other hand, this should be the most formal sounding section as it establishes you as somewhat of an authority on the topic.
H. Include a theoretical framework (2 paragraphs) – Write 1 paragraph about your theoretical framework and your thoughts about how the Theoretical Framework fits your intended research. Do not just state the name of the theory and its definition. Yes, you should do that for the reader, but you must also describe how the theory fits into your study. Why do you think this learning theory best represents the research you would like to do? How does the theory relate to your research questions? NOTE: You are not a theoretical specialist! Therefore, you must use citations (references) in your 2 paragraphs citing where you found the information.
I. Describe the methodology plan for your study. You are writing a methodology for how you would use a focus group to collect data for your topic. The focus group methodology MUST link directly to your research questions. This section should be extremely detailed and provided the following information:
1. The first paragraph should identify the type of research paradigm you will follow and why you chose that paradigm. For this assignment you must use a qualitative paradigm. (1 paragraph)
2. Participants—this will be a secondary heading. Tell all about your participants. Where they are, who they are, etc. Tell everything. You can take out stuff that is not needed later. (1 paragraph)
3. Procedures—this will be a secondary heading. What you would like your data sources to be (written statements). How you intend to gain access to your data sources. What is your data collection plan? When, how often, how many times will you collect data? (1 paragraph)
4. Relationship to each RQ—this will be a secondary heading. Now that you have written the RQs and the methodology explain how the data collection tools will answer your research questions. How will the data you collect be the data you need?
J. Describe data sources, data collection, and data analysis procedures – (1) Collect qualitative data, (2) describe how you analyzed the data, (3) analyze the data. The results should be a combination of observations and verbal interviews.
1. Data analysis (Results): this section explains what you learned about your topic after you completed your research. Try to devise 2-3 themes or big ideas that were illustrated by your data. If your findings were surprising or unexpected, include your thoughts on this. This should be the biggest section of your paper. 4-5 pages
K. Communicate your findings -Describe what happened as a result of the implementation. The results might be a combination of anecdotal records, pupil comments or performance.
L. Explain how your findings fit with the literature and theoretical framework – A summary of the main points is clearly articulated; the researcher draws conclusions that connect the literature review directly to the researcher’s interests.
M. Describe how the study can inform the audience for future endeavors – Describe and justify the next course of action….would you continue to use the practice?, discard use of the practice?, make modifications of the practice?
N. Appendix – attach anecdotal records, pupil comments, performance – any forms of qualitative information mentioned/received.
3. Design a PowerPoint (or whatever you like to use—does not matter to me how you present this). You should include one slide for each of the following. You should have only 9 slides. NO MORE! You must learn to tell the story of your work quickly. You should only have a few words about each topic on each slide then tell about what you have. Use the 7 x 7 rule. No more than 7 lines and no more than 7 words per line. I know this is hard, but presentations are not meant to show every word you want to say. These are points about which you would like to talk. You know your work better than anyone so you should know what you want to talk about. I will count off if you have more than the slides provided below.
Title slide (does not count in your 9 slides)
Introduction
Purpose of the Study—What are the gaps in the literature you will fill? Why does this study need to be completed?
Research Question(s)–only the questions
Literature Review–pick out what you must tell
Theoretical Framework
Methodology (must be qualitative)–yes all of the following must fit on one slide
Participants
Data Collection
Data Analysis
Results (include a table, graph, figure etc. or information)
Discussion—How do your findings add to the literature? Relate your findings to the literature review and your theoretical framework.
Conclusions–What does all of this mean for your research topic? What does this mean for education and educators? What should be the next steps in research on this topic?
References (does not count in your 9 slides)
