Acme Manufacturing, a small, manufacturing company with roughly 60 employees, is undergoing a change in leadership. Bud Acme started the company 45 years ago and has been heavily involved with the day to day operations ever since. Bud has decided to retire (for good this time) and pass the company down to his son Mack, and daughter Evelyn. Mack and Evelyn (M&E) both want to bring the day to day operations into the 21st century and utilize technology to make things more efficient. Bud was never a “tech guy”, in fact he didn’t trust it, so outside of production equipment, technology was never utilized for business support processes.
M&E have identified the following areas where they believe technology can help make Acme Manufacturing more competitive and also streamline current business processes:
1. The HR, Payroll, Accounting, and Asset Management processes for Acme are all currently done on paper. It is inefficient and time consuming. They need a better way to operate.
2. Acme currently has filing cabinets full of past and future customer orders, customer information, and various other sales data. They need a way to better manage this data.
3. M&E are worried that by incorporating technology into the heart of their business processes, critical and sensitive data will be exposed to hackers. They need to be assured their data will be safe.
4. M&E feel like Acme is falling behind their competitors because business decisions are not currently driven by data. They would like to know how incorporating technology can help Acme overcome this weakness.
5. New technology acceptance – Acme has spent decades operating without Information Systems so implementing these may take some time and be difficult for some employees. Make sure you address this issue.
Your company has been hired by Acme and have been tasked to help them identify and explain how and what technology can be leveraged to address the 4 functional issues above along with the 5th issue of technology acceptance.
When addressing the 5 points above, make sure your report:
Gives examples of what information systems can be implemented
Explains what type of information systems your solutions are
Explains why the system will be beneficial to the company as the company will have to spend money for implementation of the system
References other companies who have utilized similar information systems to strengthen your case
Make sure to cite your sources (MLA format). This will help add validity to your recommendations.
Your task is to create a report to present to Acme’s management team. This report needs to be formatted in a business professional manner, spell checked, and complete.
