(2) Social Problem Paper: Voting Rights
Address the following sections in your paper:
I. Using statistical data and scholarly literature, define the nature and parameters of the
social problem and the populations most impacted by the problem, including information
about the nature of any of the consequences of the problem.
 Side note: nearly each sentence should include scholarly information (and
therefore, a citation). You will to put some time and energy into developing a
meaningful structure and flow. Since each student is discussing a different topic,
you have a lot of control (and responsibility) for developing the organization of
this paper.
II. Using a theoretical approach (using any theory discussed in class or in HBSE I), explain
how theory helps us better understand the issue. Describe the theory in detail (with a
citation to the original text) and apply the theory to your topic.
III. Explain the social injustices and oppressive forces that are implicated in the problem.
Explain how the specific social problem is created and/or maintained by the social,
economic, media, religious, and any other macro level institution or social arrangements
in our society. This section should be informed and supported by research or other
relevant cultural sources.
IV. Suggest multiple social work strategies for prevention of and intervention with the
problem at the macro level (e.g., community, organizational, etc.).
Each of the sections above should include an APA-style heading, and you are required to
organize your thoughts within each section into paragraph of three or more sentences. This paper
should be approximately 6-8 pages long and include at least ten scholarly sources. Sources can
include scholarly journal articles, government websites, research think tank articles, policy briefs
or scholarly books. All of your main ideas should be based on or supported by research.
