Below is an example of each critical element addressed for one finding or issue based on the GAO report on immigration: Finding/Issue Recommendation How Will Recommendation Implementation Make Program More Accountable? Risk of Not Implementing Recommendation U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) does not document and implement its review process to ensure accuracy in its budget documents. The director of ICE should take steps to document and implement its review process to ensure accuracy in its budget documents. Documentation will allow for extra internal controls and oversight, therefore making the program more accountable. GAO found a number of inconsistencies and errors in ICE’s calculations for its congressional budget justifications. Without proper controls, the numbers sent to Congress for budgeting are inaccurate and can result in over/under funding.
