Week 4 – Assignment Reality versus Perceptions [WLO: 3] [CLOs: 4, 5, 6] Prior to starting this activity read Chapter 8 in the course text and review the Instructor Guidance and any relevant announcements. Our text suggests that objective reality is often significantly different from our perceived reality and is an important variable to consider when making decisions within an organization. In addition, attribution theory describes how people create the explanations for their own and others’ actions, as well as for the outcomes of applied behaviors. Based on these two premises, formulate an analysis about how the development of our realities explain human behaviors within organizations and industry that can essentially affect rational decision making. Your paper should include the following: Summarize the differences between perceived and objective realities and how our perceptions negotiate what we believe to be true. Discuss how the following affect one’s perception of reality and rational decision making. Attribution theory Bias Bounded rationality Cognitive biases Conjunction fallacy Primacy and recency effects Selective perceptions Contrast effect, and Stereotyping Consider using headings in your paper to organize these elements. Explain why, as a leader or manager of an organization, one should be aware of the bias that our perceptions may have on day to day rationale decision making. Identify strategies to increase awareness of potential effectors of our ability to make rational decisions based on our developed realities. Your assignment should be a minimum of four to five double-spaced pages, and should adequately discuss the topic, demonstrate maturating self-awareness, and include at least one peer-reviewed source, in addition to your text. Use the rubric to check for thoroughness. Include frequent citations to resources. Refer to the APA: Citing Within Your Paper (Links to an external site.) resource for guidance. Week 5 – Discussion Forum No unread replies. No replies. Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated. Generational Work Expectations [WLOs: 2, 3, 4] [CLOs: 4, 5, 6] Prior to beginning this activity, read Chapter 10 in the course text and review the weekly Instructor Guidance. Also review any relevant announcements. Chapter 10 addresses employee attitudes, beliefs, and differing cultures, as well as suggests that an increase in job performance is reliant on job satisfaction. The authors of our text suggest that highly satisfying jobs are more complex, requiring the worker to utilize a variety of skills and to deal with unpredictable situations (i.e. teaching, managing, engineering, etc.), unlike jobs where the work is repetitive and less thought-provoking (general laborers, factory workers, and the like). However, complex jobs, often include diverse employees. In addition, the work and life-balance expectations are suggested to differ based on generations, which may likely also affect job satisfaction as well as working effectively as a team. For this discussion: Identify the generation you fall into, based on the text: The Traditionalists or Matures The Baby Boomers Generation X Generation Y or the Millennials Generation Z Consider your own expectations and beliefs. Do they align with what our content suggests about the characteristics of your identified generational group? Research one generation that differs from your identification and share some of the events that have shaped this generation, including their beliefs and behaviors. Discuss the relationship between events within your generation versus your researched generation. How might these events, that have developed our ideologies, affect a work environment that includes both generations? Identify one generation that could potentially be more difficult for someone in your identified generation to effectively work with. What variables may create this challenge (e.g. communication style, wellness, life balance, etc.)? How does an increase in awareness, of the factors that affect what differing generations believe, positively support a healthy and productive work environment? Your initial post should be between 300 and 400 words. You must use at least one scholarly, peer-reviewed source that was published within the past five years. Refer to the Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.) resource for guidance. Cite all information from your sources according to APA guidelines and list each of your sources at the end of your post according to APA style as shown in the APA: Formatting Your References List (Links to an external site.) resource. Hi, This is a two part assignment about starting up a business. Here are the instructions: Sally’s Business Idea Sally, a fourth-year student in the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), has approached you about the establishment of a business the two of you have dreamed about for years: opening a restaurant in Florida! Sally, your best friend from childhood, indicated she performed some preliminary research and decided, “It’s now or never!” After reviewing her notes, you both agreed that if the two of you could assemble a start-up plan, it would result in substantial start-up costs savings. Fortunately, you have a business law course this semester designed to integrate legal theory and business operations that should be helpful. Your course is designed to provide hands-on use of authentic legal and business-planning tools and documentation required to start and operate a business. The course is going to provide a wealth of information. Sally suggests that since you will shortly be a “Legal Eagle,” you should handle the details related to starting a business. This includes researching the legal and business aspects required to get a business up and running. Sally agreed to handle the food and beverage aspects and provide various issues that need documentation. As a lifelong friend of Sally, you remember one important thing; she always has many questions, and she expects perfection. Sally consistently wants to assign a grade to everything! So you have developed the habit of reading all the support material you can find and perform research that you can use to document everything you submit to her for review. Her expectation is that you will read your course textbook, perform outside research, and review other resources that she will provide to assist you in constructing your work product critical to building a business plan. Review the information on the Readings & Resources page to make sure you have all the knowledge you need! Part 1- Sally’s Start-Up Checklist: Business Since Sally knows that you have watched the SBA videos designed for entrepreneurs starting small businesses, she would like for you to do some background work based on what you have learned. Sally’s Questions Sally has written down her questions in the Requirements for Starting a New Business: Background Work – Business Requirements (DOCX). She asks that you download the document, answer the ten questions, and submit your answers for the assignment. Use the information from the SBA videos as your guide. The SWOT Matrix Form (DOCX) will assist you in completing Sally’s Requirement Sheet. Submit Once you have answered all of Sally’s questions, name your document and submit the completed document with your answers and your completed SWOT Matrix Form. Use a naming convention that does not use punctuation or special characters.
