Lab Report Analysis Assignment:
Task:
The purpose of this lab is to expand on your ability in developing a site targeting analysis. As you know, site targeting is widely used to select areas of interest based on a set of criteria. The method originated in land use planning for situations like finding suitable sites to locate urban services, and, in this field, is called site suitability analysis. The common ground among this type of analysis in many fields is that it involves multiple criteria that are spatially overlaid to find only the sites that meet the required criteria (a.k.a. sieve mapping).
The Scenario:
It has been brought to the attention of the St. Vincent Minister of Environment and Housing (small island in the Caribbean) that the current capacity of the emergency shelter network is extremely limited. The government has undertaken a campaign to build several new shelters and you have been selected to identify appropriate locations for these structures. The government has developed a set of criteria for you to use in the site selection process and has provided you with the necessary data sets.

Objectives:
This lab will push you to develop a GIS analysis with limited step by step instructions. The previous lab was also based on site targeting analysis, however, in this exercise you will worktoward implementing the analysis completely on your own. You will use simple tabular queries, buffer analysis, and raster overlay modelling techniques. You may want to implement this analysis using model builder, or work through the steps by implementing each analytic technique on your own. Ultimately, you need to keep track of your steps.
Tip: Begin by identifying, using the criteria given above, what is suitable (Yes = 0) and what is not suitable (No = 1) e.g. within flood zone = 1 (cannot build here), outside flood zone = 0 (can build here). It may be useful to spend a few moments now doing this, perhaps as a table in your notes. There is a reason for using 0 as the ‘suitable’ identifier which should become clear at the end of the lab.
