Each student is required to complete a descriptive research report, in APA format. The
topic for the Lesson 12 Assignment is the One Meridian Plaza Fire. Please review the
Chapter 12 Case Study found on page #320 of the course textbook. The research paper
should include a discussion of the following topics:
• Identify and describe the characteristics of Fire Resistive Construction.
o Describe the construction characteristics associated with the One
Meridian Plaza building.
• Identify and describe challenges associated with suppressing fires in buildings of
Fire Resistive construction.
o Identify challenges faced by firefighters while responding to the One
Meridian Plaza Fire.
• Describe the origins and fire spread relative to the building construction of the
One Meridian Plaza building.
• Identify how the fire was eventually extinguished.
• Finally, the research paper should include a recommendation for reducing risk to
firefighters when operating at fires in Fire Resistive construction buildings.
The research paper shall be a minimum of one page and a maximum of two pages, not
including the title page and reference page. The reference page should include at least
two references, one of which may be your course textbook. However, additional sources
should be harvested through research.
Take the following steps to complete this assignment:
1. Access one or more of the libraries listed below and identify a minimum of one
reference (more is better) that include materials describing the risks associated with
fires in buildings of ordinary type construction with bowstring truss roofs. You may also
use Internet resources or other publications for this assignment. However, Wikipedia is
not an acceptable resource for use in this course.

2.Read Chapter 10 of the course textbook.
3.Review the Chapter 10 Power Point Presentation.
4.Review the supplemental artifacts provided in Lesson 10.
5.Conduct additional research as you deem appropriate.
6.Review and study the information you have collected through your research.
7.Write a descriptive research paper. This descriptive research paper/article must include all of the following:
• Title Page
• Introduction
• Literature Review
• Conclusion
• Reference Page
