Each state has developed a comprehensive test designed to measure students’ reading, writing,
mathematical,and/or science skills. For example, in Florida, the FSA (Florida Standards Assessment),as well as End-of-Course (EOC) assessments are used. Schools receive an annual grade based. on the. performance of their students on the FSA and/or EOCs. FSA scores and EOC scores are used to assist schoolcounselors with advising students and placing them into the proper coursework, though. assessment methods and requirements likely change and require verification of current FL DOE practices. In this assignment, the NSU candidate will review historicalclass or school data and write a paper on the purpose of one of the comprehensive tests (e.g., FSA, End of Course Assessments). In this paper, you will complete the following:
1. Describe the assessment you chose and give a brief history of its development and implementation. Are there any controversies surrounding this test in your state? Is this a norm-referenced or criterion-referenced test?
2. Describe the major functions, strengths,and limitations of the assessment.
3. Explain how evaluation of students’ data from the assessment chosen can be linked to career
development. How can schoolcounselors use data from this assessment to plan a career
development counseling intervention?
4. Explain how you can modify the assessment and testing conditions for the test you chose to
accommodate learning styles and varying levels of knowledge.
5. Select three middle schools or three elementary schools: one urban, one rural, one suburban. Identify and describe these three schools and the communities in which they are located. For each school, find the most recent,average test scores in reading for Grades 6, 7,and 8 for middle or grades 3, 4, and 5 for elementary.
6. Create,and include, on a separate page,a table with one axis for Schools and one axis for Grade
Level. For each school, which grade level has the lowest scores and which grade has the highest
scores? Why do you think this is?
7. Describe the differences you discover in the reading scores among the schools. Give a minimum of two explanations for these differences.
8. Describe the differences you discover in the reading scores between the grade levels. Give a
