Does it matter that the document is false and that Willie Lynch is not real?

Consider the discussion of the Willie Lynch Letter/Speech in the lecture, “The ‘Willie Lynch Syndrome’ Syndrome.” There are many people, many of them well-educated, who promote this document as truth. There are others who recognize the document as false, but believe there is “some truth to it” and that it should be used as a tool to educate African Americans about racism and slavery. What do you think? Does it matter that the document is false and that Willie Lynch is not real? Given what Karenga says about the relevance of Africana Studies, what position should Africana Studies scholars take on the issue?
