The Voice might be a hard example for this week’s discussion. I know that most businesses do have a budget, or set amount that they can pay a person for a set position, but that person may not always get it. In most jobs I have applied for, they usually ask you what you would like to be paid, then what they can offer, and from there you can negotiate. It is also legal to talk to other employees about their pay, so if you feel as if you are being paid unfairly, then you can confront your employer. (Your Right to Discuss Wages) For the Voice, I think that it would make a difference if there was a base wage, and the names were removed, but it is also tv. I am assuming that there has to be a quota of males and females, a base wage for the show only, but from there, it would be based on concerts, record deals, labels and streams sold ect. After the show, I believe that it would be impossible to treat and pay everyone equally because it is based on raw talent alone. There should be a base wage for everyone from the start of the show, then gradually increase as less contestants remain. For most other businesses, I think that removing the names and setting a base wages for each position would be very helpful in reducing wage discrimination. “Your Right to Discuss Wages.” Your Right to Discuss Wages | National Labor Relations Board, https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/your-rights/your-rights-to-discuss-wages#:~:text=Under%20the%20National%20Labor%20Relations,their%20workplace%20about%20their%20wages.
