Here is the prompt for the discussion section:
Discuss the findings in the same order in which hypotheses were presented: Reintroduce your hypothesis and then discuss all of the results that were found, whether significant or not. Provide an interpretation of what these results mean.
Integrate your study with other areas of research: Compare your results with the findings from other studies. How do the results of your research align the previous work in the field? If you found opposing results that differ from previous literature, explain why. You have the option of re-visiting sources that have already been discussed in your introduction section or including new sources and ideas that were not yet highlighted.
Theory: Address why your results matter in the field of social psychology. Do the results of your study support or challenge existing theories? Were there any unexpected findings that are relevant to consider?
Application and practical value: How can this information be used and why should people care about your results? What type of practical implications do your results have and how can this information be used in real-world situations?
Limitations, Unexpected Factors, and Confounds: Discuss the major limitations of your research? What unexpected factors might have influenced the outcomes of your results? What confounds were not accounted for, but should have been? Be sure to comment on the significance of these issues in relation to your overall interpretation of the results and share how the imitations and confounds could impact the validity of your findings.
Future Research: Provide a few suggestions about future research based on what you now know given your results and the limitations/unexpected factors you encountered. Offer specific thoughts for how future studies might build on existing ideas, or create new avenues for research that your study was unable to address.
Conclusion and take-home message: The closing paragraph of your paper should be one of the strongest, summarizing the main points and providing a nice takeaway message. Share why you feel your findings are important, why your research matters, and any key points that will leave the reader feeling as though they have learned something meaningful.
The Abstract is the final component to your paper and will likely be written after all the other sections have been completed. When writing the abstract, be sure to include an introduction to the topic and research question, an overview of the methods used, participants involved, and procedure, whether the results were significant or supported, implications, and the conclusions that can be reached from the findings.
