When writing a rhetorical analysis, you are NOT saying whether or not you agree with the argument. Instead, you’re discussing how the rhetorician makes that argument and whether or not the approach used is successful. When you choose an essay, you need to make sure you 1) understand the subject matter, and 2) understand what the author is really writing about (i.e. the argument). Once you figure out what the author is arguing, you need to explain how they accomplish it. Did they appeal to the reader’s emotions? Did the use facts? Did they use an anecdotal evidence? These are some questions to ask yourself while unpacking their argument, and then ask yourself why? Why would the author deploy these techniques given the subject matter? You need to use analysis and in-text examples to show the reader your argument. This essay will be 2-3 pages. Rhetorical analysis for Stephen King “Why we grave horror movies”.
