For the Research Paper assignment, students will write a four page paper (200 points) that includes at least two book and/or journal resources outside of the textbook. A fifth page of the paper will be for the cited resources and photos of the two works of art.
You will select one representative western work of the visual or pertorming arts, and one non-Western work ot visual or pertorming art, both trom the same time period, (based on Western eras), and write a research paper comparing the two works and the culture and society in which they were created i.e. religion. politics, social unrest. aovernments. war etc)
The visual and pertorming arts include painting, digital art, print art, photography, graphic arts, sculpture, architecture, theatre, film and dance.
You should include information about the people and culture of the eras in which the works were created and included only a few brief sentences on the artist/creator if known (no more than 3 sentences). Include an image or photo of your two art works, or a still photo from your dance or film that illustrates the cultural characteristics you have selected as your topic.
Begin reviewing the textbook chapter outlines
for the Western era dates.
You will then need to select a non Western country and work of art. You may select artworks that are outside of the textbook.
Paragraph 1: Introduction. State clearly what type of visual art you will discuss, the time period your work was created, and the two countries you will compare
Paragraph 2: Describe the western work of art in detail, and the culture in which it was created
Paragraph 3: Describe the non-western work of art in detail, and the culture in which it was created.
Paragraph 4: Compare the two works of art, and how the beliefs, values, and ideas expressed in them are similar and/or different
Paragraph 5. Conclusion
On page 5 include your works cited and your two images of the art works. Be sure to cite the sources of the two artworks in your citations.
