Response 1Electrification impacted the entire world. From the workplace to the home, from education to entertainment, society was forever changed. With the development of electricity, no longer were there as many labor-intensive tasks that would take all day to complete, leaving little to no recreation time for an individual (Carter, 2005). In addition, electricity gave way to the people not having to use the sun as their clock especially concerning labor (The Impact of Electricity on Society, 2020).In the workplace, before electricity became widely used, most businesses dictated their workday based on how long the sun was out. When the sun said goodbye for the day so did the workers. But with electrification, came the opportunity for work hours to be extended because of the resources that could be used to make artificial light (The Impact of Electricity on Society, 2020). And with the prospect of long business hours came the opportunity for production in all types of businesses to increase, and that it did.Electrification was also a major lifesaver for the household. For the housewife, the entire day used to be filled with numerous time-consuming tasks that took all day such as washing and ironing clothes, cooking 3 times a day, making soap, catching firewood, fetching water, etc. Electricity however paved the way for numerous time-saving inventions to be made that could significantly help the household. For example, inventions such as the microwave, oven, stove, and the electric refrigerator helped greatly with food storage and meal preparation and helped to make grocery shopping a far less frequent chore. The development of the washing machine helped to eliminate the harsh responsibilities of making soap, fetching water to boil, and handwashing clothes. Other inventions like the vacuum and hairdryer helped to save time in other areas of household life too (Carter, 2005). All these inventions definitely helped to save time and give the housewife more time for leisure in addition to spending more time with the husband and kids before it was time to go to bed.Electricity helped in so many other ways such as in advancing communication, science, and many other things that current society is able to benefit from today. And it will definitely be a main key in improving life in the future.Response 2How did it transform the daily lives and the worldview of lower class, middle class, and upper class people, if at all? Intense focus and the mechanical efforts of both hands are required for correctly cleaned dishes and other kitchen utensils, which may be a time-consuming and aggravating process. Joel Houghton created a dishwashing machine constructed of wood in 1850 due to the demand for a machine that could wash dishes and the ever-evolving ideas that innovators had during this period. It was the first attempt to build a dishwasher, although it wasn’t the most successful of the inventions. Using hands, it sprinkled water over dirty dishes using a wheel that the operator manually spun. However, after Joel Houghton was granted his patent for this work, a further effort was required to get a faultless design. In the year 1886, Josephine Garis Cochran was credited with creating the world’s first functional automated dishwashing. She made the first functional dishwasher, which is considered the forerunner of today’s dishwasher. In the shed behind her house, she built a dishwashing machine, Cochrane Dishwasher.
