Purpose: This assignment is to help you integrate theory and skills to plan a group and demonstrate your knowledge of tasks and issues of group development during the beginning, work and ending phases of groups, and evaluation of the group experience. Directions: For this assignment, you are planning a group that is relevant to an agency you are familiar with through practicum, volunteering, or employment. Write an 8-10 page paper using APA format that includes a reference page with at least 4 sources from scholarly journals. One or two citations should address group work with your target population or specific problem area. Focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion by discussing race, gender, ethnicity, age, religion, class, sexual orientation, and/or ability as they are relevant to all aspects of work with groups. Your paper must address the following: 1. Describe the agency and general population served (approx. ½-1 page) 2. Understanding the Group (approx. 2-3 pages) a. What population have you identified for this group? b. What is the purpose of the group? Provide a couple of goals of the group. c. What needs and problems will the group address? d. What strengths will the group utilize? e. What type of group will this be and how will the group type a‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ddress the needs, strengths f. and problems of the population? g. Examine empirical evidence for the most effective group based approach to this problem. What is the evidence for its effectiveness? (at least 1 page) 3. Planning the Group (approx. 1-2 pages) a. How would you approach the agency system and staff, and deal with any possible ensuing resistance/reluctance? b. What composition factors would you consider? (., size, open/closed, homogeneous/heterogeneous). Discuss the rationale for and the effects of such composition. c. How will you publicize/screen members (any specific members you will not include)? 4. Engaging and Intervening (approx. 3-4 pages) a. How would you clarify the purpose of the group and negotiate a working agreement with the members? Include a verbatim statement of purpose, as you would say it at your first session. b. What will the group actually do in the meeting? Include such issues as meeting format, themes, activities, decision-making, and the like. This should be based on the evidence-based group approach you have discussed in section 2. c. Describe the intervention strategies and specific skills you would likely use during engagement and intervention phases. d. Describe any potential complications or any barriers to the group’s success 5. Evaluating and Terminating (approx. 1-2 pages) a. How do you plan to evaluate the group experience (., use of standardized instruments, on-going feedback, questionnaires)? Provide 2-4 sample questions/measures. b.
