This assignment has two parts. A one paged rough draft and a 3 paged main paper about an imaginative narrative. Both written on separate word documents. I’ll write details of the rough draft here and attach details of the main papers below.
For the IMAGINATIVE NARRATIVE assignment, just remember that your outline should that of a story, a narrative (NOT that of an argument or an essay with a thesis statement).
Section 1: Story opening
[Roughly 1 paragraph to 1 page]
Introduce main character (the unlikeable stranger who did/said something I didn’t like, and who will be the first-person narrator/protagonist of this story)
Show or describe specific details about his/her CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES that will make readers feel great sympathy for him/her
Section 2
[Roughly 1 page or more (anything, roughly, from 2 to 5 paragraphs)]
Show or describe details about this person’s life that will enable me, the writer, to succeed with maximum effectiveness at the things required by the ASSIGNMETN SHEET]
Show or describe specific details of this person’s PAST that will also give readers maximum possible sympathy for him/her
Describe these details/events/etc. in such a way that readers will get a sense of this person’s INNER LIFE that creates even further sympathy and understanding for him/her
Section 3
[roughly 1 paragraph to 1 page, or more if needed (anything, roughly, from 1 to 4 paragraphs, as needed, for you to paint the scene as effectively as you can, given whatever was said or done in your particular experience)]
Describe, from inside the viewpoint of this person’s mind and through his/her eyes, the “event” that happened which I (the writer of this assignment) experienced and which I found “mildly annoying” or “irritating”
Use “dialogue” to represent any specific words spoken by the various people involved in the event/experience
Use basic narration and descriiption to show what was said or done, specifically, in this moment
And yet, describe the whole thing in such a way that, despite the words or actions of the narrator/protagonist being unlikeable, readers will still be unable to avoid feeling deep sympathy for this person (the narrator/protagonist) who has said or done the annoying or irritating or mildly unlikeable thing that I experienced.
