Teacher candidates will create a traditional test. Skills include creating a Table of Specifications,
applying good item writing guidelines, achieving alignment, and defending the test.
Instructions
For this task, you will be designing a Table of Specifications and creating an objective 15-item
test with three different types of questions covered (i.e., five items for each question type). You
will still be using the four standards used in Critical Task 1.
Complete the below steps for this critical task:
1. Begin by creating a table of specifications for your test. Your table of specifications
should have:
a. At least four content criteria (based on your standards and/or learning objectives)
going down the most left column.
b. A column for each cognitive dimension of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy
covered by at least one item in the test.
i. For example, if you have items tied to the remembering, understanding,
and analyzing levels, you will only include these three columns in your
table of specifications.
c. Total and percentage columns to show the total number of items related to each
criterion, as well as the percentage of all items covering each criterion.
d. Total and percentage rows to show the total number of items related to each
cognitive dimension of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy included in your test, as
well as the percentage of all items covering each of these cognitive dimensions.
e. See course materials, the textbook, or the example of the next page to make it
clearer what your Table of Specifications should look like!
2. Create 15 objective questions based on your standards from Critical Task 1. These
should be broken into three different groups of questions:
a. 5 True/False Questions
b. 5 Selected-Response (aka “multiple choice”) Questions
i. At least one of these questions must be an interpretive exercise.
ii. ALL selected-response questions must be higher than the
remembering level.
c. 5 Fill-in-the-blank Questions
3. Include a set of thorough directions. Include information on how much time students will
have, how many points everything is worth, how they should record their answers, and
anything else they should know about the test.
4. Underneath each question, you must include the following information:
a. Standard Assessed
i. Include both the coding scheme and wording.
b. Alignment Defense
i. Make clear how this item aligns with the standard.

c. Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy Level
i. Make sure to list both the cognitive and knowledge dimensions!
ii. No justification/explanation needed for taxonomy level.
