In this assignment, students with create vignettes (hypothetical factual scenarios) depicting each of the following scenarios of rape:
(1) stranger rape,
(2) acquaintance rape,
(3) date rape, and
(4) rape within marriage.
Include facts for each scenario that make it clear to the reader you have created each within it’s specified context and include both offender and victim(s) characteristics and any other relevant info for each hypothetical. Once you have created your scenarios, you will share each brief vignette with 3 individuals.
SURVEY
You will informally survey the 3 individuals (these can be fellow students, family members, co-workers, friends etc.), asking them to “rate” the level of victim precipitation (how a victim’s interaction with the offender may have contributed to the crime), offender culpability (how blame-worthy the offender is), and overall harm (total harm done in each situation). The survey ratings can be of your choosing, but I would suggest a 1-5 or 1-10 scale with the 1 representing the low and 5 /10 representing the high in each category.
Your written response here will include your 4 situations of rape vignettes along with your survey findings and results from the 3 individuals you questioned. In addition to the scenarios and survey portion, your response should also contain at least 1 typed page of analysis on your findings considering some of the following. Summarize your findings across the 4 rape scenarios with survey results. Did your findings surprise you? Why or why not? Were your fairly results consistent among the respondents you chose, and if not, what might account for these differences? If you responded to the survey yourself, would your responses/ratings be different than those your surveyed? Why or why not. Include any other points of interest from giving the survey to your family/friends/classmates.
Formatting: 2.5-3 full type pages; Times New Roman, 12pt. font., 1 inch margins, double spaced and proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and paragraphing throughout. See above for breakdown of the: I. vignette portion/hypotheticals; II. survey portion and III. analysis of survey results. I would suggest breaking the assignment down into 3 parts using those headings.
Rubric: attached below out of 25pts. Student are encouraged to review the rubric PRIOR to submitted their written response to Canvas.
Sources: Ensure you are properly crediting your sources throughout and not simply listing your references at the end of your submission. Students may cite back to our text for inclusion in the analysis of their findings.
