Task:

This task has been designed to enable you to demonstrate your awareness of building control legislation relevant to Energy Efficiency in your State or Territory.

Part A

a) All students

List the applicable BCA Performance Requirements Part 2.6 Energy Efficiency for your State or Territory. Include explanatory information and State or Territory variations. Variations are located in the additions section of Volume Two of the BCA.

b) All states and territory’s other than NSW

1. Using Acceptable construction practice 3.12.0 Application of Part 3.12, detail which option you will use to assess the TAFE BUILD 203 plans to comply with the energy efficiency Deemed to Satisfy Provisions 3.12.1-3.12.4;

Option 1 Energy Rating — 3.12.0(a)(i) to achieve the required energy rating and comply with (B) to (F) for energy-saving features such as the testing and installation of insulation, thermal breaks, compensation for downlights, floor edge insulation and detailed provisions for building sealing.

Option 2 Elemental Provisions — 3.12.0(a)(ii) to satisfy all the detailed provisions including meeting the Total R-Values of roofs, walls and floors, the glazing allowances and the air movement requirements. These detailed provisions also include the testing and installation of insulation, thermal breaks, compensation for downlights, floor edge insulation and detailed provisions for building sealing. A flow chart is available 3.12.0 Application of Part 3.12

2. Detail how you are going to meet the requirements of 3.12.0.1 Heating and cooling loads.

C) NSW STUDENTS: are required to submit a BASIX Report based on the attached building plan TAFE BUILD 203. Where it is found that the plans do not support BASIX Compliance provide a summary of the modifications / inclusions required to achieve BASIX compliance.

Part B
All States and Territory’s
You are required to assess the TAFE BUILD 203 plans against the provisions Part 3.12 Energy Efficiency. Use the table to demonstrate what deemed to satisfy provisions will be used to achieve a BCA compliant design.
