Connection to assigned reading: In Chapter 7 of the Grading for Equity book Feldman covers grading practices that are mathematically accurate. One of these practices is not assigning zeros for missing or incomplete work. Your task: This is certainly a controversial proposal. Feldman presents the research behind the case for not assigning zeros in the chapter, but we all know practice on the ground feels different from proposals based on the work of others’ or research. So here is your opportunity to take a stance based on your practice on the ground, against Feldman’s proposal or for it, or partially against it, or partially for it. Construct a short argumentative essay (no more than one page) with evidence from your real-life classroom experiences about why you disagree or agree (completely or partially) with any aspect of Feldman’s proposal regarding the use of zeros. My thoughts: My county has a no zero policy and a no percentage under 70%. With this policy students were able to complete work below the standard and still pass. I felt somewhat partial or in between with the policy because how we measuring the validity or academic performance of the student. And then again I also want to them to motivated and pushed to achieve and not feel discouraged with receiving a lot of zeros. I uploaded Chapter 7 to complete assignment.
