1.The collaborative discussion for this week is focused on the DNP as the clinical scholar. How have you demonstrated your role as a clinical scholar in your current position?
I have participated in quality improvement projects with my colleagues to identify patients pain preoperatively to improve pain postoperative and presented a poster at the ASPAN 2017 national conference. The project serves as a stimulus to have surgical services in our institution obtain a pain management consult for the patient who had chronic pain issues. In the midst of the of the opioid epidemic, my colleagues and I in PACU have identified that we are overprescribing # of opioids to postsurgical patients. When we have completed our data collection and analyzed our findings, we hope to publish in a peer-reviewed journal to show a solid knowledge and scholarship in our discipline. I work for Pre-Admission Testing. I conduct health assessment s of patients scheduled for surgery. I have the knowledge and skills to identify acute or chronic health problems that can adversely affect surgical outcomes. I collaborate with the surgical service to initiate diagnostic testing or consultation with specialty services to optimize patients for surgery. My clinical judgment and decision making demonstrates clinical scholarship
2.How do you anticipate integrating this role into your current or future career?
3.As a DNP prepared nurse, I will have the knowledge and expertise to improve healthcare outcomes through practice change. I would like to discuss with stakeholders the importance of having nurse practitioners in Pre-admission testing and a redesign to improve healthcare for patients preparing for surgery
