Checklist of requirements for Final Research Paper:

use this list and submit again if you need to.)
____Paper is inTimes New Roman, 12 font, double spaced–throughout whole paper.
___Content of information at least answers questions in the outline sent by Prof. McGill
___Thesis statement with developed body paragraphs.
___At least FIVE different reputable sources/experts. One can be our textbook and/or the text quoted.
___Direct quotations from the author, text, experts, along with your summaries.
___In-text citations (inside your paper source attributions) for every idea that is not yours. (AVOID Plagiarism!)
___Works Cited page has all the sources used in the paper and is set in MLA format (Compare your Works Cited to example in our text book. Hanging file, alphabetical order, only double-spaced, 12-font Times New Roman, last page of paper.
Your Works Cited has all your in-text sources. We do NOT use the word REFERENCES in MLA
___Free of Grammar errors, including sentence-structure, punctuation, verb usage, etc.
___Paper is at least 1200 words (1200-1500 words)
While you each have a special angle or two you’d like to explore, this is a basic outline you can use to help organize both your research and paper:
1. Give a brief biography/history of your writer. Tell us about the childhood, adulthood, etc.
This is where you will explore and answer questions about your author’s life’s influences on the writing. What is in your author’s background that may have lead to the writings we have? What do scholars say about this? Is the person dead or alive now?
2. What are some of the writer’s more known and not-so-well known works? Is there much of a body of works? This is where you’ll discuss some of the themes you’ve found interesting. Use specific examples from different works to demonstrate the two or more themes you’re focusing on. Pick a few pieces of writing to illustrate your themes. What do the scholars say about these themes in these writings?
3. Discuss why scholars think the writer’s work is valuable. Why do readers find it captivating? Why do YOU like it (if you do)? This is a research project and you’re exploring your author through the eyes of scholars and presenting your discovered information through presentation. And you are telling us what you think, too.
You’ll weave scholars’/critics’ opinions all through your own ideas throughout your presentation. You’ll also give actual examples from your author’s texts and scholars’ texts to support these opinions and ideas. You must use DIRECT QUOTATIONS along with summarizing.
4. This paper–because it’s a research project–will need IN-TEXT citations for all new information, knowledge, direct and indirect quotations that come from other sources than yourself.
Your librarian is a great help in finding quality sources.
Remember you need at least FIVE scholarly/reputable sources.
Really…at least FIVE…and your librarian is your best friend in this project.
