In this assignment, you will analyze the implications of an ethical issue according to the Christian worldview. You will be challenged to think about Christian worldview core beliefs and apply what you have learned over this course. This will be a thorough analysis of a case study you will choose from the options provided.

Write a 1,000-1,500-word essay in which you analyze ethical thinking and use values-based decision-making to address a case study from the perspective of the Christian worldview. Choose one case study from the five options listed in the attached “Ethical Dilemmas” document (attached).

After an appropriate introductory paragraph with a thesis statement in which you name the scenario you are choosing, address each of the following six sections with at least one paragraph each. Write at least one paragraph for each component using the underlined titles for a subheading.
Ethical Dilemma: Briefly describe the ethical dilemma in your own words, including (a) what in the scenario makes it difficult to make an ethical decision and (b) at least two options for resolving the scenario, providing a brief overview of what sort of ethical decisions each option might make. Core Beliefs: What beliefs about God and humanity from the Christian worldview are relevant to the scenario? How might these core worldview commitments of Christians influence one’s decision-making with regard to this scenario? Resolution: Describe the Christian worldview’s proposal for resolving the ethical dilemma. How should the person in the scenario act according to the Christian worldview? What is the best course of action for a Christian? (Note: The resolution should be consistent with Christian worldview commitments.) Evaluation: What might be the unintended consequences and perceived benefits of the resolution proposed by the Christian worldview? Comparison: How does the Christian worldview resolution compare to how another worldview might resolve the dilemma? Choose a specific contrasting worldview, such as atheism, pantheism, or scientism. Conclusion: Synthesize the main points, pulling the ideas of the paper together. References
Use and cite two course resources (use the Bible), and at least two scholarly sources that address the issue from opposing sides. Refer to the directions on “Example Ethical Dilemma Essay.” (attached)

The Consumer Decision-Making Process

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve been a consumer all your life. The types and costs of your purchases have changed over time, but you’ve learned from watching others and experiencing the sensation of choosing an item and making the purchase. What you may not realize is that you’ve likely followed a consumer-purchase process.

For this assignment, you will do a three-part deep dive into the consumer decision-making process.

Part One. Complete the following:
Identify and discuss the process, taking care to explain each step. Walk your reader through each step of the consumer purchase process, defining each step. Choose a major purchase that you plan to make in the future (e.g., a vacation, a car, a smartphone, a computer, a Hermes handbag, a horse, etc.). Apply each step to your purchase (e.g., identify why you find yourself making this purchase, perform an information search, evaluate alternatives using a table, make a choice and justify it, and so forth.).
You are not expected to actually make the purchase, so you may predict the outcome, as opposed to actually describing it.

Part Two. In this section, you will identify and analyze the factors that have influenced your actions and decisions throughout the process. These include:
Personal factors that affect your perspective (e.g., faith, age, lifestyle, location) Pricing and personal accounting The type of purchase—functional versus hedonistic Family influence Ethical considerations Image Ease and place of purchase
Part Three. For this final section, synthesize your findings and analysis from Parts One and Two. Consider the following questions: What factors are strongest and least likely to change your purchase decisions? What factors are more variable? How can marketers use these insights to attract new customers and deepen relations with existing ones?

The Research Paper Topic Proposal

This week, you will submit your research topic proposal to your instructor for approval.

Begin by exploring topics in developmental psychology. Reference your textbook, the weekly introductions in your course, and reputable journal articles to explore topic ideas. Be sure to choose a topic that you are highly interested in. From that topic, you will pose a question for your research.

For example, you may find interest in the life span of adolescence. From there, you may want to explore issues related to adolescent suicide. From this topic you could pose a number of questions to research, such as:
Are adolescents from single-parent homes at higher risk of suicide than those from two-parent homes? Does lack of play in childhood lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence? Does “helicopter parenting” lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence?
How to Develop a Research Question

Your research question should enable you draw some unique conclusions so that you are not simply reporting on research that has already been concluded. You may have to do some preliminary research within your topic to determine a suitable question. Here are some examples.

This example is too broad and will likely lead to a confusing and disorganized paper. It lacks parameters.

Why do adolescents commit suicide?

This example is too narrow. It can be answered rather simply with some basic data.

How many adolescent suicides occurred last year?

A good research question specifies the parameters of the research, yet leaves room for analysis and the writer’s unique input.

What are some of the unique social factors that led to an increase in suicide rates among 13- to 18-year-old females in 2015?

(In your paper, you would define two to three social factors you deem significant and connect them with the appropriate physical, cognitive, and socioemotional occurrences happening during this part of life span development. Then, draw your own conclusions from the research you find.)

Once you have your research question, phrase it as a statement so that it can become your thesis statement. The thesis statement is what drives the direction of your paper.

The Research Paper Topic Proposal Assignment

Include the following in your topic proposal:
Your research question Your thesis statement A narrative describing your topic and why you chose it (its significance)
Refer to the Writing Resources link under the Student Resources tab for help with writing thesis statements and research questions, and consult your West Coast University librarians for database search support as needed.

Your topic proposal should be 1–2 pages in length. Use current APA Style and cite and reference all sources.
