Before you start your zine, go to the Module 5 folder and review the linked videos on the history of zines and how to make them, the linked archives where you can see sample zines, and the sample zines posted there.
Start your own zine by gathering up your Interrogation posts and any other notes you’ve taken about the readings this quarter, and start with just one page: take one Interrogation post and think about turning it into something visual. Remember that you should have incorporated quotations from the readings in your Interrogation posts, and you should return to those readings for more engagement in your zine.
Choose at least three readings from this class that you wrote about to engage in your zine.
Your zine can interpret, question, and/or teach ideas from the course that have stuck with you, making connections between texts or to your own life, in substantive ways.
You can draw your own images, collage with magazines and other sources, use text or images printed on a computer, and/or use your own handwriting.
You can use programs like Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign to lay out the zine, or do it by hand with crafting materials.
You can make just one for your TA to review, or you can reproduce it physically or digitally and distribute it the way zines were intended.
Your zine can be creative writing like poetry, instructions for some kind of skill, a story, intellectual reflections on class material, reviews of art or literature we haven’t seen but that connect to the course in some way—the possibilities are endless and I encourage you to speak to your TA if you have any doubts.
Depending on how you create your zine, you will upload the file, photographs of the physical zine, or a link to Canvas at the end of the semester.
